Message from Commissoners
Congratulations to teams Emeth-Brookline and Beth Elohim 1-Wellesley for winning the Tel Aviv and Jerusalem Division 2012 Kiddush Cup Championships, respectively.
This is a special year for the MSSL - its our 10th Anniversary. With 44 teams this year, it has grown to be what we think may be the largest, or one of the largest, men's Jewish softball leagues in the United States.
Thank you all for being a part of such a wonderful program. We trust you have enjoyed your participation as much as we have.
We would like to remind you all of a couple of things. First, the MSSL started a LinkedIn group a few years ago called MSSL Professionals. There about 100+ members, but the number of members should be 5 times that. Membership is limited to current or former players or coaches of the MSSL. Please take a moment to join the group, and when you do, please send a note indicating the team or teams that you play or have played for.
Second, there are two softball related events we want to bring to your attention, neither of which are operated by the MSSL, but which we thought you might be interested. There is a large Boston-area summer and fall (non-Jewish) co-ed, competitive, slow-pitch softball league that starts in mid-July. If you would like more information on that league, the organizer is Mike Nader of The Hub Softball. He can be reached at (617) 959-9056 or mike at thehubsoftball dot com.
There is also a men's, Jewish South Florida softball tournament that takes place each year during Presidents weekend. It's too late to participate in the 2013 inaugural year of the tournament, but there are players and teams from Denver, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Florida, Maryland, Atlanta, New Orleans and other cities who have expressed interest in playing. If you wish to learn more about the tournament for next year, the organizer is Doug Grant. He can be reached at (786) 380-0035 or doug at menorahsoftball dot com.
If you do participate in either of the non-MSSL softball events listed above, please let us know of your experience so we can share it with other MSSL players and coaches. Thanks.
Lastly, the 2013 regular season of the MSSL begins Sunday, April 14, 2013. There are nine regular season games ending on Sunday, June 16, 2013 (no games are scheduled over the Memorial Day Weekend) . Thereafter, the first two rounds of playoffs are scheduled for Sunday, June 23, 2013 and Sunday, June 30, 2013. The remainder of the playoffs and the Kiddush Cup Championship games will be scheduled by each of the remaining opponents.
If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Otherwise, have a enjoyable and safe season!
Best regards,
Bob Alperin, Co-Commissioner (617) 921-9797 (m); balperin at verizon dot net
